Frequently Asked Question:

What is a typical Slowpokes event like?

For a few examples (with pictures!) of what Slowpokes events are like, please see Ed's July 3, 2001, May 29, 2003, July 1, 2003, May 27, 2005, and July 5, 2005 event reviews.  He provides a candid and enthusiastic description of what our events are like -- thanks Ed!

Can just anyone come and drive with Slowpokes?

No.  You must be at least 18 years old and have successfully completed a high-speed driving school before you can drive at one of the Slowpokes events.  This is necessary to ensure your safety, as well as the safety of the other drivers at the event.

What must we do to our cars before we attend a Slowpokes event?

Your car must have passed a tech inspection -- we honor tech inspections from pretty much any reputable mechanic (examples are Auto Edge, Courtney's, FlatSix, Johnson Autosport, Leighton's Garage, Nurburgring, Orr, etc., you get the idea...).

We recommend that you bleed your brakes, torque your wheels lugs, clean everything out of your car (cabin, glove box, trunk, etc.) and get a good night's sleep before you run an event with us.

What is the schedule for a typical Slowpokes event?

7:30am   Main Gates Open
8:40am - 8:50am   Mandatory Driver's Meeting
9:00am - Noon   Open Track
Noon - 1:00pm   Lunch Break (parade laps only)
1:00pm - 6:00pm   Open Track
6:00pm - 7:00pm   Post-Driving Party in the Paddock

As you can see, there are no run groups, instead we give you 8 hours of open track time so that you can get as many laps as you and/or your car is capable of.  :-)

Wow, without run groups, don't you have a large speed differential between cars and isn't that dangerous?

Slowpokes events are predicated by the idea that we're all adults out there.  We allow "passing by contract" in all areas of the track.  This allows the faster cars more opportunity to be "pointed by" by the slower cars, yet still allows everyone a tremendous amount of track time.  It's not unusual to get out on the track and run several laps without even seeing another car.

What's "passing by contract?"

When a faster car catches a slower car on the track, the faster car can only pass if the slower car has given a clear indication (either a point, a wave or a turn signal) that they are ready to be passed.  We allow passing anywhere on the track, but only when the slower car allows it.  At the time of being passed, we ask the slower car to pull off-line and slow down in order to expedite the passing process.  In the case of multiple cars, the slower car will eventually need to indicate that they are pulling back onto the line (a point or a turn signal).  At the time, if there are any cars still behind the slower car, they must yield and wait for the next passing opportunity.

What about safety vehicles and corner workers?

Slowpokes hires the ambulance crew, an extraction team, and SCCA corner workers (typically 5 corners) to ensure that our events are safe as well as fun.
